Madden Named To All-MVC Scholar-Athlete First Team
ST. LOUIS – Drake senior libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa) was selected to the All-Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete first team, the league office announced today
Madden closed her career with 40 digs, three service aces and two assists in her final match last Saturday night against Bradley. She leaves Drake second all-time in career digs with 1,540. She finished this year with a team-high 516 digs and a 5.16 digs per set average. Her per set average ranked second in the MVC.
Madden holds a 3.51 cumulative grade point average in accounting, finance and marketing. She has already accepted a position in the Principal Financial Group’s prestigious three-year leadership and development rotation that will start in June, 2014. Madden garnered honorable mention All-MVC scholar-athlete honors in 2012.
The Valley also announced that Drake junior outside hitter Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa) earned All-MVC scholar-athlete honorable mention honors for the second consecutive season. Platte smashed a team-leading 246 kills along with 86 digs and 36 blocks this season. She holds a 3.88 cumulative GPA in accounting, finance and economics.
38 student-athletes were selected to the Valley’s scholar-athlete team. Nominees must be starters or important reserves with at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale). Also, students must have participated in at least 75 percent of the regular-season matches. Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen and redshirt freshmen were not eligible).
