DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University women’s basketball head coach Jennie Baranczyk has announced the addition of Dan Doerflein to her staff as the Bulldogs’ coordinator of basketball operations.

“Dan is a perfect fit for our staff and Drake University,” said Baranczyk. “He believes in the vision of this program and will help us be successful. I worked with him at Colorado and he has a wide range of basketball knowledge and experience. I’m thrilled to have him on board.”

Doerflein joins the Drake staff after three years as the video coordinator for the University of Colorado women's basketball team. At Colorado he edited and analyzed practice and game film for the coaching staff led by head coach Linda Lappe, a former Drake assistant coach, and assisted in the creation of scouting reports. He served as the director for the Colorado women's basketball summer camps.

While at Colorado he was part of a turnaround for the program that included two WNIT trips and one NCAA tournament appearance.

“I’m very excited to join the Drake women’s basketball family,” Doerflein said. “This is a program with such tremendous success and history. I’ve known Coach Baranczyk for several years and I’m excited about the future of the Drake women’s basketball program. I’m honored to be a part of an outstanding staff.”

Prior to Colorado, he spent seven seasons working with the Brigham Young University women’s basketball program. He started as a student assistant at BYU for the 2001-02 season and following a two-year mission trip to Washington, D.C., for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, he resumed his role from 2004-07, where he primarily worked on conversion defense and player development.

Doerflein was the BYU film coordinator from 2007-09, where he was tasked with recording and analyzing game film. In 2009, following his graduation from BYU with his bachelor’s degree in American Studies, he was hired as the program’s director of operations for the 2009-10 season where he was responsible for scheduling, travel, academics and film exchange.

Born in Columbia, Md., he graduated from Grandview High School in Aurora, Colo. in 2001 where he lettered in baseball, basketball and tennis. He has worked numerous youth basketball camps at BYU, Colorado and the University of Maryland.
