DES MOINES, Iowa - Drake men's soccer assistant coach Kyle Smith has been selected as the head men’s soccer coach at Cumberland University in Lebanon, Tenn.

Smith was a member of head coach Sean Holmes’ staff the past two seasons helping lead the Bulldogs to 17 wins over the two-year span and a pair of berths in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship semifinals.

A total of 11 players garnered All-MVC accolades over the two seasons, including Matt Kuhn, who was selected by DC United in the MLS Supplemental Draft in 2011. In addition, senior Nick Marshall (Glen Carbon, Ill.) was selected as a second-team honoree to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America® Division I Men's Soccer Team, as chosen by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

“I'm thrilled that another one of our assistants has been able to fulfill his career aspiration to become a head college coach,” Holmes commented.   “Kyle did a great job with both our guys and in the youth soccer community; I know he will be successful at Cumberland.”
