Acree and Coleman Added to CFPA Watch List
DES MOINES, Iowa – Drake University football defensive linemen Brandon Coleman (Cary, Ill.) and Matt Acree (Shawnee, Kan.) have been named to the 2013 College Football Performance Awards FCS preseason defensive line watch list.
“Congratulations to Matt Acree and Brandon Coleman on earning spots on the 2013 CFPA Watch List,” CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith said. “Acree and Coleman combined for 24.5 tackles for loss in Drake's eleven games last season.”
Coleman, who was recently voted as a team captain for the 2013 season, led the Bulldogs in tackles for loss in 2012 with 13.5 and 7.5 sacks in addition to his seven credited quarterback hurries and four pass break-ups. While helping the Bulldogs to their second straight Pioneer Football League title, he earned second team All-PFL honors. He is just as accomplished in the classroom, earning Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-District accolades and a spot on the PFL’s All-Academic first team.
Acree, who manned the interior of the defensive line in 2012, recorded 11 tackles for loss and 3.4 sacks in 11 games. He also added a blocked kick and fumble recovery to his stats.
Drake is one of only four programs (along with North Dakota State, Villanova, and Chattanooga) to have multiple players on the 2013 CFPA Defensive Lineman Watch List. Acree and Coleman join Drake teammates in wide receiver Nick Rosa and tight end Kevin Marshall on the 2013 CFPA FCS Awards Watch List.
All CFPA recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions.
