Leland Leads Bulldogs On Day Two Of ODU/Outer Banks Invitational

POWELLS POINT, N.C. - Sparked by a second-round 73 from redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) on Monday (Oct. 22), the Drake men's golf team is in 17th place overall at the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Invitational at the Kilmarlic Golf Club.

The Bulldogs shaved 17 strokes off its 322 opening-round effort to post a team effort of 305 through 36 holes.

"We played a little better today as we were able to take off a number of strokes from our opening round," Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. "Devin (Leland) turned in a pretty solid round and was one or two swings away from a great effort. It came down to big numbers on a couple of holes for each of the guys that kept us from having a great round. Hopefully we can continue to eliminate those big numbers tomorrow and build momentum with a strong final round."

Sophomore Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) turned in a 78 on day two of the tournament and is one stroke behind Leland for top-team scoring honors with a 158 (80-78) total, a mark that is tied for 66th place. Leland owns a 157 (84-73) tournament score and is tied for 61st place.

Sophomore Dane Worley (Des Moines, Iowa) fired a 76 and is tied for 68th place with a 159 (83-76) score.

Junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) and freshman Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) registered second-day scores of 78 and 87 to stand tied for 71st and 83rd, respectively.

Drake concludes its fall campaign with the tournament's final 18 holes on Tuesday (Oct. 23). Tee times start at 7:30 a.m. CT.
