In doubles, the 59th-rated duo of seniors Anis Ghorbel (Sfax, Tunisia) and James McKie (Edinburgh, Scotland) earned a pair of victories to move into the round of 16. The tandem opened its day edging Luke Elifson and Parker Lawley of South Dakota State, 8-2, before downing Minnesota's Mathieu Froment and Juan Pablo Ramirez, 8-5.
Senior Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) moved forward in the main singles draw downing Bradley's Juan Diego Cuadrado, 6-2, 7-5.
Ghorbel, who is ranked No. 87 in the preseason ITA singles rankings, dispatched Abdul Alawadhi of Missouri, 6-1, 6-4.
Junior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) opened his tournament besting in-state foe Matt Hagen of Iowa, 6-3, 6-2.
Sophomore Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) was forced to go three sets in his showdown with Alejandro Espejo Sanchez of Tulsa before pulling out a 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 victory.
McKie capped off the day for Drake registering a 6-1, 6-0 win over James Thorp of South Dakota State.
Competition in the main draw in both singles and doubles resumes on Saturday (Oct. 20).
