Drake Closes Fall Campaign At ODU/Outer Banks Invitational
The Drake men's golf team concludes its fall campaign this week as the Bulldogs travel to Powells Point, N.C., to compete in the Old Dominion/Outer Banks Invitational next Sunday (Oct. 21) through Tuesday (Oct. 23).
The 54-hole event, hosted by Old Dominion, will be held at the Kilmarlic Golf Course. Tee times off the first and 10th holes, respectively, each day will begin at 7:30 a.m. CT.
The 18-team field includes: Delaware, Drake, Drexel, Elon, George Mason, George Washington, Georgia Southern, Hartford, Hofstra, James Madison, Marshall, Longwood, Loyola, Old Dominion, Radford, Richmond, Saint Bonaventure, Virginia Commonwealth.
A LOOK BACK
Fueled by a final-round 74 from sophomore Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), Drake earned a 10th-place showing at the Bill Ross Intercollegiate hosted by UMKC on Tuesday (Oct. 16) at the Minburn Golf and Country Club in Kansas City, Mo.
Worley carved out a tournament mark of 225 (76-75-74=225) to finish tied for 28th, lowering his score each round to help the Bulldogs to a 54-hole total of 904 (301-298-305).
Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) matched Worley's tournament effort, shooting an identical 225 (74-73-78) total.
One stroke off their pace was junior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), who registered a 54-hole mark of 226 (74-76-77) to wrap up the event tied for 35th place.
Junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) garnered a final-round 76 to conclude his tournament tied for 49th place with a 228 (78-74-76) total. Sophomore Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) rounded out Drake's contingent with a 233 (78-76-79) score, good for a 71st-place tie.

Matt Lewis is in his second season leading the Drake's men's golf program after being named head coach on July 26, 2011.
In his first campaign directing the Bulldogs, Drake turned in top-10 finishes in six tournaments and was led by Devin Leland and Blake Huser, who posted scoring averages of 76.3 and 76.8, respectively.
In a finish where only eight strokes separated the third- to eighth-place finishers, Drake earned a seventh-place showing at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship on the strength of a 910 (303-292-315) score.
