Tough Conditions Dominate Day One For Bulldogs At Jim Colbert Intercollegiate
"The conditions were difficult for everyone today and I think scores reflected that for all the teams," Bulldog head coach Matt Lewis commented. "The course won definitely won today as we weren't able to minimize our mistakes. When conditions were like they were today you need to manage and limit big numbers. I think everyone had a hole or series of holes in both rounds that affected our scores. We are disappointed with our scores today, but we will look to regroup for tomorrow and finish strong on what promises to be another tough day of conditions."
Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) was Drake's top-finisher with a 36-hole score of 163 (81-82=163), to tie for 22nd place.
One stroke off his pace was junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa), who carded a 164 (86-78=164) total to finish tied for 26th.
Rounding out Drake's efforts with a 174 (82-92=174) total to tie for 52nd was freshman Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.).
The Bulldogs conclude tournament play on Tuesday (Oct. 2) as action gets underway with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
