Phoenix Down Bulldogs In Volleyball Opener, 3-0
GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Drake Bulldogs dropped their opening match of the season to the Wisconsin-Green Bay Phoenix, 3-0, on Friday in the opening match of the Wisconsin-Green Bay tournament. The scores were 25-19, 25-13 and 25-20. Seven freshmen or sophomores played significant minutes on Friday night for the Bulldogs.
Freshman Cassie Effken (Lincoln, Neb.) paced the Bulldogs with nine kills and she added four digs in her debut. Senior Bentley Mancini (Burnsville, Minn.) added five kills and Halli Meyer (Bettendorf, Iowa) led the Bulldogs with ten assists in the setter position.
Lyndsay Zabkowicz had a double-double for the Green Bay with 13 kills and 14 digs. Leah Pohl posted solid numbers with three kills, 36 assists and six digs.
Drake will look to bounce back tomorrow with two matches. The Blue and White will face Auburn at 10 a.m. and Central Michigan at 4:30 p.m.
