COLUMBUS, Ohio - Drake head volleyball coach Tony Sunga served as co-head coach of the Central Iowa Select 16-Under Maroon girls team that captured USA Volleyball's American Division National Championship in Columbus, Ohio last week. High school players from several central Iowa schools comprised the team.

Sunga and Simpson College head coach Lana Smith led the team to ten straight wins to advance to the championship match against the Mavericks 900 club from Southern California. The Maroons overcame deficits of 23-19 and 24-19 in the championship match to capture the title.

The club only dropped three sets the entire tournament and defeated clubs from Florida, California, Georgia, Texas and Illinois, including two clubs who held number one national rankings.
