What's Ahead: The Drake women's cross country squad will wrap up the regular season portion of its schedule when they compete at the Bradley Classic on Friday (Oct. 14). The start time for the 6,000-meter race, held at the Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., is at 4:20 p.m.
Last Time Out: Led by freshman Mariel Fulton (Louisville, Colo.), Drake earned third-place honors at the Walt Disney Cross Country Classic on Saturday (Oct. 8).
Fulton ran the 5,000-meter race at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 19:12.70 to earn 11th-place.
Senior Kirsten Lake (Parker, Colo.) was 20th crossing the line in 19:25.70, while freshman Melissa Parks (Norfolk, Neb.) achieved 24th-place with a time of 19:29.60.
Sophomore Celia Venezia (Labadie, Mo.) and freshman Krista Maguire (Wasau, Wis.) ran the course in 19:42.20 and 19:43.70 to finish 29th and 30th, respectively.
The Bulldogs registered 114 points to come in behind Tampa and Florida Atlantic, while battling wet conditions for the first time this year.
A Year Ago: Casey McDermott placed second out of 184 runners at the Bradley Classic women's cross country meet at the Newman Golf Course on Oct.15, 2010.
McDermott was clocked in a personal best 21
minutes 17 seconds for the 6,000-meter race. Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Elise Sigg
won the race in 21:05.
In the final tune-up before competing in the
Missouri Valley Conference Championships Oct. 30, McDermott helped lead the
Bulldogs to eighth place in the 20-team field.
Tara Scieszinski was 20th in 22:07, while senior Meredith Bell placed 44th in 22:41. Then freshman Erin Poss (Antioch, Ill.) was 53rd in 22:53 and Kirsten Lake was 71st in 23:13.
Up Next: The Bulldogs will run at the State Farm MVC Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 30. The 5,000-meter race will be held at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
