Tesson Added To CFPA Watch List
Drake University kicker Benjamin Tesson (Fenton, Mo.) has been named to the 2014 CFPA Placekicker Award Watch List, the College Football Performance Awards announced.
As a freshman in 2013, Tesson connected on five of his seven field goal attempts and was perfect from inside 30 yards. He also converted on 15 point after touchdown attempts. In the win over Indianapolis, he was a perfect 3-of-3 with field goals of 52, 38 and 37 yards. His 52-yard make tied for the fifth-longest field goal in program history.
“Congratulations to Benjamin Tesson on joining Eric Saubert on this year's watch list,” said CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith. “Tesson demonstrated his valuable combination of strength and accuracy during the 2013 season."
The initial watch list for kickers includes 36 returning performers, vying for the top placekicker award in the Football Championship Subdivision. All players are eligible for awards at their respective positions; players are not preemptively eliminated from consideration.
The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous awards in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-eight CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
CFPA is now in its seventh season of recognition. Its player and team performance index ranks offensive, defensive, and special teams success.
The full list of 2014 CFPA winners will be announced Jan. 14, 2015.
