DES MOINES, Iowa Dan Doerflein has been promoted to assistant coach with the Drake University women’s basketball program, while Dominique Kelley has been hired as the coordinator of basketball operations, head coach Jennie Baranczyk announced on Wednesday, July 2.

Doerflein, who was the Bulldogs’ coordinator of basketball operations this past season, joined the Drake staff after two years as the video coordinator for the University of Colorado women's basketball team.

“We are excited to have Dan move into his new role on our staff,” Baranczyk said. “He is an enthusiastic recruiter, a hard-worker and a great fit in our program and at Drake University.”

Doerflein spent seven seasons working with the Brigham Young University women’s basketball program. He started as a student assistant at BYU for the 2001-02 season and following a two-year mission trip to Washington, D.C., he resumed his role from 2004-07.

BYU’s film coordinator from 2007-09, Doerflein graduated from BYU in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in American studies and was hired as the program’s director of operations for the 2009-10 season. He and his wife, Lindsay, reside in Des Moines, Iowa.

Kelley comes to Drake after a two-year stint as a graduate assistant at the University of Nebraska, where she was a standout, four-year starter for the Cornhuskers from 2007-11.

The Lincoln, Neb., native started 109 consecutive games until a knee injury limited her to just 12 games her senior campaign. A two-year team captain, Kelley helped the Cornhuskers to a 32-2 overall record and a trip to the school’s first-ever Sweet 16 as a number one seed during the 2010 NCAA Tournament. She ended her playing career No. 17 on the all-time Nebraska scoring list with 1,107 career points.

“We are fortunate to be able to bring in a quality individual like Dominique to our staff,” Baranczyk said. “She is a young, energetic, up-and-coming coach who comes from an outstanding program in Nebraska and a tremendous head coach in Connie Yori.”

Kelley spent one season as an assistant coach at Doane College in Crete, Neb., before returning to Nebraska in 2012-13. The Cornhuskers captured their first-ever conference tournament title in 2013-14 and won an NCAA Tournament game for the second consecutive season. Kelley graduated from Nebraska with a master’s degree in educational administration in May of 2014 and a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting in May of 2012.
