Three Bulldogs Set To Compete At NCAA Men's Tennis Championship
DES MOINES, Iowa - A school-record three players will represent Drake at the NCAA Men's Tennis Championship this week in Athens, Ga., with their inclusion into the 64-player singles and 32-team doubles fields, respectively.
Junior Alen Salibasic (Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina) is the seventh Drake men’s tennis player to be selected to compete in the singles championship, while senior Robin Goodman (Cambridge, England) and junior Ravi Patel (London, England) were chosen for the doubles tournament.
Salibasic is ranked 68th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) singles rankings, while Goodman and Patel are No. 47 in the doubles ratings.
The singles competition begins on Wednesday (May 21) at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., while doubles action gets underway on Thursday (May 22).
Salibasic will face 23rd-rated Austin Smith of Georgia at 2:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday (May 21), while Goodman and Patel will battle the No. 2 nationally-ranked duo of Mikelis Libietis and Hunter Reese of Tennessee on Thursday (May 22).
Past tournament qualifiers for Drake in singles include; Martin Dionne (1992 and 1993), Danny Isaak (1992), Ross Nwachukwu (1994), Robert Novotny (1995 and 1997), Dalibor Pavic (2008) and Anis Ghorbel (2013).
