Drake Third After Round One Of Indiana State Spring Invitational
The Bulldogs’ 316 scorecard represented their second-lowest round of the spring and placed Drake four strokes behind tournament leader William Woods.
“After our battles recently with illness it was nice to put together such a solid round today and put ourselves in position for a strong finish tomorrow,” Drake head coach Leanne Smith commented. “Arianna (Gastelum) played really well and found her game again today, while Katie (Clausen) turned in a great round, very solid with no big numbers. Hopefully we can turn in another strong performance tomorrow to close out the tournament on a positive note.”
Freshman Arianna Gastelum (Chula Vista, Calif.) paced the Bulldogs’ attack with a team-low 77, a mark that tied for sixth place.
Shooting identical rounds of 79 to tie for 13th was junior Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.) and Clausen.
Senior Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) rounded out Drake’s efforts registering an 81 to tie for 23rd place.
The Bulldogs close out the Indiana State Spring Invitational with Monday’s (April 14) final round. A shotgun started is slated for 10:00 a.m. CT.
