Boyd Garners MVC Women's Tennis Player Of The Week Accolades
Boyd helped Drake extend its winning streak to five, including its first-ever victory over Wisconsin, on the strength of a perfect 4-0 combined singles/doubles ledger in two matches for the Bulldogs last week.
In Drake's 7-0 victory over Creighton on Friday (Feb. 21), she posted victories at the No. 2 doubles and No. 4 singles slots, respectively.
Boyd then turned in arguably her best effort of the season in a 4-3 win over Wisconsin on Sunday (Feb. 23). In doubles, she paired with sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) to hand the Badgers their initial loss of the dual season at the No. 3 position, besting Sydney Rider and Anastascia Tripolskay, 8-5.
In singles, after dropping her first set against Rider at the No. 4 position, Boyd rallied to claim a 6-4 victory in the second frame to force a winner-take-all third set to decide the match. With the overall match tied at three between Drake and Wisconsin, Boyd jumped out to an early lead in the third set and then battled her way through Rider's challenge to garner the match-clinching point with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 triumph.
On the season, Boyd owns a team-best 39-8 combined singles/doubles record, including a team-high 22-1 doubles mark.
Boyd and the Bulldogs (5-1) return to action this weekend traveling to Lincoln, Neb., to battle Nebraska and Colorado State on Friday (Feb. 28) and Saturday (March 1), respectively.
