Menís Basketball Hits The Road To Face Bradley
DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University men’s basketball team takes a four-game winning streak on the road to face Bradley Saturday evening. Tipoff at Carver Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the game being aired in Des Moines on 1350-AM KRNT.
The Bulldogs travel to Peoria at 1-0 in the Missouri Valley Conference and 10-3 overall after defeating Evansville, 94-66, on Wednesday evening.
“We’re fortunate to be where we’re at and it’s a credit to the guys for buying in,” said Drake head coach Ray Giacoletti said of the program’s best start in six seasons. “We’re starting to find our flow offensively and doing a good job of not complicating the game.”
However, the Bulldogs will be facing their first MVC road test of the season after going 5-2 in their non-conference road and neutral site games. Saturday’s host, Bradley, is 5-9 on the season and has dropped seven straight games.
“It’s not easy to win on the road and they’re [Bradley] a team whose back is going to be up against the wall,” Giacoletti said. “It’s going to be one of those games that comes down to how well we can defend and rebound the ball.”
Those two have been critical to Drake’s early season success as the team has held all 13 opponents below their season scoring average and outrebounded its opponent in all 10 of its wins. During the current four-game win streak, the Bulldogs have held a 7.8-rebound per game advantage on the glass.
Following Saturday’s contest, the Bulldogs return to the Knapp Center to host Indiana State on Jan. 8 at 7:05 p.m. Last season, Drake swept the season series with the Sycamores, who were picked second in the preseason MVC poll this season.
