DES MOINES, Iowa – The Drake University volleyball team dropped a three-set match to Loyola by scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-18 on Friday, Nov. 22 at the Knapp Center.

Senior libero Sarah Madden (Van Meter, Iowa), who earlier this month moved into second place all-time in career digs, had a team-leading 17 digs against the Ramblers. Madden added two service aces and one assist.

Junior Amanda Platte (Mount Vernon, Iowa) paced Drake (2-27, 0-17 MVC) with six kills and added three digs and one block. Sophomore Rebecca Brown (Bentonville, Ark.) continued her strong play at the setter position as she finished with 21 assists, six digs and two blocks. Redshirt freshman Katie Allen (Mokena, Ill.) had five kills and zero errors, while hitting .417. She added a team-high three blocks.

Loyola (13-17, 7-10 MVC), who joined the Missouri Valley Conference this past July, was led by Morgan Reardon’s match-high 13 kills. Libby Bresser finished with 10 kills along with three digs and four blocks.

The Ramblers took early control of the match cruising to a 25-15 opening set win. Loyola smashed 17 kills with just five attack errors, while hitting .324. Freshman Makena Schoene (Seattle, Wash.) blasted a team-leading four kills in the set for Drake. Reardon had seven kills in the frame.

Allen’s service ace gave the Bulldogs a 19-17 lead in set number two, but they couldn’t hold the lead. Loyola rallied with four straight points, which forced Drake to call a timeout. The timeout didn’t help as the Ramblers rattled off four points to take the set at 25-19. The second set featured seven ties and five lead changes.

Drake finished with 10 kills and just four errors in the final set, but couldn’t break through against the Ramblers, who smashed 18 kills. The Bulldogs went up 6-5 after a kill from Allen, however, it was their final lead of the set. Loyola built its lead to 11-7 and extended it to 17-10 as Drake called their last timeout. The Ramblers went on to win the set and match with a 25-18 score.

The Bulldogs close the 2013 campaign with a contest with Bradley on Saturday night (Nov. 23). Drake will honor its lone senior, Madden, prior to the match against the Braves. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.GoDrakeBulldogs.com.
