Women's Tennis To Play For Pair Of MVC Individual Titles
ST. LOUIS, Mo. - A pair of championships will be on the line for the Drake women’s tennis team when the Bulldogs conclude their stay at the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals on Sunday (Oct. 6).
Sophomore Maddie Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) set-up a championship showdown against Kadi Ilves from Illinois State in the No. 5 singles draw after registering a 6-4, 6-1 triumph past Wichita State’s Satjaporn Mahajaroenkul.
In doubles, the tandem of junior Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.) and sophomore Jordan Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) advanced to the title tilt in the No. 2 flight after downing Kylie Haviland and Krissy Lankelma from Northern Iowa, 8-2. The Drake duo faces Julia Schiller and Abby Stevens of Wichita State.
Rain wrecked havoc with Saturday’s (Oct. 5) schedule as matches were forced indoors cutting down available courts from 12 to five. Most consolation matches were not played and will be contested when tournament action concludes on Sunday (Oct. 6) starting at 9:00 a.m.
