LINCOLN, Neb. – Sophomore Steven Jordan (McFarland, Wis.) won his first event this season in the 200 meters to lead the Drake men's track and field squad at the Nebraska Invite.
“The team was amazing today,” Drake head coach Natasha Kaiser-Brown said. “Today's meet was about improving or maintaining current performances, which is something we were able to accomplish.”
Jordan's time of 22.00 not only won him the race but was also a personal best. Senior Justin Welch (St. Louis, Mo.) was forth in 22.91 and also finished second in the 100 meters in 11.63.
Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) was second in the 800 meters, crossing the line in 1:51.59, a personal best. Freshman Calvin Daack (Dubuque, Iowa) was sixth in the 1500 meters in 4:10.43 followed by senior Michael Rodriguez (Chanhassen, Minn.) in eighth at 4:15.32.
Junior Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) had the team's top showing in the 400 meters, claiming second in 48.23. Freshman Kai Asberry (Carrollton, Texas) ran 49.55 to place fourth, while Jordan, 49.82, was fifth.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Marsh, Asberry, freshman Scott Goad (Dixon, Ill.) and Jordan won the event in 41.65.
The 110-meter hurdles saw freshman Julian Todd-Borden (Carlsbad, Calif.) run 15.54 to place third while junior Jeffrey Foreman (Winfield, Ill.) was fourth in 16.09. Todd-Borden was also sixth in the 400-meter hurdles in 56.63.
Foreman had a busy day off the oval as well. He was sixth in the pole vault by clearing 10-11.75 and fifth in the javelin throw at 130-2.
The Bulldogs will return home to Drake Stadium next weekend to host the 2013 MVC Outdoor Championships, May 10-12.
