SUNRISE, Mo. – The Drake women's golf team turned in an improved showing during second-day action at the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Monday (April 22), carding a 344 total at The Club at Porto Cima to own a 696 (352-344) scorecard through 36 holes.
“I thought we played better today adjusting to the course conditions, there were just 2-3 holes per golfer that hurt our final scores,” Drake head coach Leanne Smith. “Chelsey (Falk) turned in another solid round and Hadley (Jennings) played very well on the front nine before a few tough breaks down the stretch. If we can continue to improve tomorrow and cut down on our mistakes we can move up in the final standings and take some positive momentum into the offseason.”
Junior Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) turned in the Bulldogs' low round of the day posting an 80, while senior Chelsey Falk (Glenwood, Minn.) fired an 83.
Falk and Jennings remain in contention for top-18 flag honors as the duo is tied for 18th and 26th, respectively, with 36-hole scores of 165 (82-83) and 169 (89-80).
Rounding out the Drake's contingent at the MVC Championship is sophomore Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.), freshman Katie Clausen (Hinton, Iowa) and sophomore Ashley Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.). The trio owns tournament scores of 176 (88-88), 186 (93-93) and 202 (101-101), respectively, to maintain 38th-, 45th- and 48th-place standings.
The Bulldogs conclude their campaign on Tuesday (April 23) with the final round of the MVC Championship. Tee times for Drake will begin at 10:00 a.m.
