Drake Eyes Strong Finish At C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Drake men's golf team opened the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate hosted by Missouri at the Club at Old Hawthorne on Monday (April 8) with a 36-hole total of 596 (301-295), to sit ninth of 12 teams.

“Our second round today was better than our first, but unfortunately over the last 2-3 holes of both rounds we gave a number of strokes back,” Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented.  “The guys were a little disappointed with how we finished each round, but it is a positive that all five guys are in it, we just need to finish each round out strong.”

Sophomore Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) is tied for 24th after carding back-to-back rounds of 74 to turn in a team-best two-round effort of 148.

Tied for 29th place one shot off his pace were freshman Will McDonald (Tulsa, Okla.) and junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa).  The duo registered 36-hole scores of 149 (73-76=149) and 149 (76-73=149), respectively.

Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) and senior Ben Lyons (Centennial, Colo.) rounded out Drake's efforts with scores of 150 (78-72=150) and 155 (79-76=155), to stand tied for 34th and 53rd place.

“Our goal is to go out and get off to a good start tomorrow and finish the round out strong,” said Lewis.  “The guys are all confident with their games, it is just a matter of executing and finishing.  I'm proud of guys battling through 36 holes today as a number of them were fighting with illness.”

The Bulldogs close out their stay at the C.O.G. Mizzou Intercollegiate on Tuesday (April 9) with a shotgun start beginning at 8:00 a.m.

DRAKE RESULTS: Dane Worley (74-74=148/T-24th), Will McDonald (73-76=149/T-29th), Matt Ohl (76-73=149/T-29th), Devin Leland (78-72=150/T-34th) and Ben Lyons (79-76=155/53rd).
