Iowa - The Drake men's track and field squad opened competition
Friday night at the Iowa State Holiday Preview with solid performances in the
jumps.
The
Bulldogs most impressive showings on the night were seen in the jumps as Scott
Goad finished second in the high jump with a mark of 6-8.75. Goad was
followed by Jeff Foreman (Winfield, Ill.) in a tie for sixth and Ryan Cook (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in ninth, wh. Both cleared 6-4.75 with
Foreman finishing higher on misses. It was Cook's first collegiate competition.
"The
high jumpers kicked the meet off with great performances by Scott Goad, Ryan
Cook and Jeff Foreman," Drake head coach Natasha Brown said.
The
Bulldogs also had top finishers in the triple jump. Alex Kaster (Omaha,
Neb.) finished third with a jump of 45-6.50 while teammate Sean Duczek finished
right behind him in fourth with a jump of 43-11.75.
Brett Wright (Longmont, Colo.) led a trio of Drake athletes in the top-10
of the 300 meters. Wright finished second in a time of 35.11 with Steven Jordan (McFarland, Wis.) coming in fourth in 35.58. Ian Wells rounded
out the Bulldogs' finishers in a time of 36.01, good enough for seventh.
The
freshman duo of Jim Saxton (La Crosse, Wis.) and Zachary Elkins (St.
Joseph, Ill.) finished third and seventh, respectively, in the mile run. Saxton
ran a time of 4:33.85 and Elkins followed in 4:39.08. Classmate Ali Jandal (La
Crosse, Wis.) finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in 9:18.23.
Drake
finished the evening with the 4x300-meter relay team of Wells, Wright, Travis Marsh (Ankeny, Iowa) and Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) running a
combined time of 2:18.23 to finish third.
The
Bulldogs return to action in January at the Iowa State Invitational after a
month off the winter break.
