ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The
Missouri Valley Conference has announced that Drake juniors Megan Fisher (Ankeny, Iowa/Ankeny) and Kalena Litch (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata)
have been named the league's Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and
Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Fisher is being honored for the second time in her Drake career, while
Litch garnered her fourth weekly league award of the season and her sixth as a
Bulldog.
Fisher registered one shot while sparking
Drake to a 1-1 mark last week, including a 1-0 overtime shutout
victory past Evansville.
In the Bulldogs' 1-0 setback at Western
Illinois, she led a defensive charge that limited the Leathernecks' attack to
only one goal and eight shots on goal. Western Illinois' top-two shot producers
were also held to two shots each.
Fisher added another defensive gem in a
1-0 overtime win past Evansville as the Bulldogs limited Stephanie Thompson,
Kayla Smith and Abby Springer, who came into the week rated fourth, seventh and
eighth in the MVC in shots, to one, one and three shots, respectively,
including only one on goal.
On the season, she has helped the
Bulldogs notch a league-best six shutouts, while collecting an assist on eight
shots.
Litch recorded 10 saves, while owning a
0.43 goals against average en route to picking up a key shutout in a 1-0
overtime win over Evansville.
In the Bulldogs' 1-0 setback at Western
Illinois, she led a defensive charge that limited the Leathernecks' attack that
averages 21.7 shots and 2.69 goals per game to only one goal, while posting six
saves.
Litch collected four saves against
Evansville en route to her league-best sixth shutout of the year. The
Purple Aces managed only four shots on frame in the affair. The result
was Drake's second shutout in three MVC games.
On the season, she has pulled in 69 saves
and recorded a 0.73 goals against average.
Beginning a stretch that will see the
Bulldogs (11-3-1, 2-0-1 MVC) play three of their final four games away from
home, Drake faces a key Missouri Valley Conference showdown at Creighton on
Thursday (Oct. 11) before tangling with in-state rival Iowa State on Sunday
(Oct. 14). Game time against the
Bluejays is slated for 7:00 p.m., while the encounter with the Cyclones will
start at 1:00 p.m.
