OMAHA, Neb. - The Drake men's golf team garnered six scores in the 70's,
but its efforts fell three strokes short of defeating Creighton, as the Bluejays
edged the Bulldogs in dual-match play at the Omaha Country Club on Wednesday
(Sept. 26).
"Today was a great test and challenge for the guys to play a
good team on a phenomenal course like this, " Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented. "We were solid today, just one or two
putts or strokes away. This should
be a nice tune-up going into Kansas State next week, as it will be another
challenging course. This was
better than any practice we could do and I think we'll reap the benefits from
this on the preparation side."
The Bluejays fired a 298 total in the event, while the
Bulldogs posted a 301 score. Six golfers
competed for each side with the top-four scores for both squads counting
towards determine the team champion.
Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) fired a match-low 73
to share top honors with Ben Lowman of Creighton.
Junior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) carded the Bulldogs'
second-best showing with a score of 75.
