NEBRASKA CITY, Neb. - Freshman Will McDonald (Sapulpa, Okla.) registered a final-round 74 to lead the Drake men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Fairway Club Invitational on Tuesday (Sept. 11), as the Bulldogs carded a three-round total of 920 (298-311-311=920).

Battling windy conditions throughout the final 18 holes, McDonald fired his lowest score, 74, as a collegian concluding his first tournament with 229 (79-76-74=229) score en route to collecting a team-best 18th-place showing.

"Today was extremely tough for all the golfers with the winds and scores were a little high because of the conditions," Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented.  "The guys continued to battle through the conditions, but we weren't able to put together a good team score.  Everyone learned something about their games up to this point and now we'll get ready for Colorado State next week."

Junior Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) finished one stoke off McDonald's pace, carding a tournament score of 230 (74-78-78=230), which tied for 20th place.

Redshirt sophomore Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) had his struggles in the conditions on Tuesday (Sept. 11), scoring a final-round 83, to conclude his tournament tied for 27th with a 54-hole total of 232 (71-78-83=232).

Rounding out Drake's contingent were sophomore Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) and junior Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) with scores of 159 (77-79-81=237/T-48th) and 159 (76-83-78=237/T-48th), respectively.

The Bulldogs return to action at the Colorado State Invitational next Monday (Sept. 17) and Tuesday (Sept. 18).
