ST. LOUIS, Mo. - The Missouri
Valley Conference has announced that Drake sophomore Ashlie Stokes (Sioux City, Iowa/Sioux City North) and junior Kalena Litch (Plymouth, Minn./Wayzata) have
been named the league's Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and
Goalkeeper of the Week, respectively.
Stokes is being honored for the first time in her Drake career, while
Litch garnered a weekly league award for the third time as a Bulldog.
Stokes helped the Bulldogs register a 2-0
mark last week on the strength of team highs in goals (2), points (4), shots
(9) and shots on goal (4).
In Drake's 2-1 road win at South Dakota State
last Friday (Aug. 31), she scored the game-winning goal in the 75th minute
(74:35) to help the Bulldogs surpass their road victory total for all of the
2011 campaign. She also contributed three shots in the win.
Stokes posted her team-leading fourth goal of
the season in Drake's 2-1 overtime win past North Dakota State on Sunday (Sept.
2). She chipped in a game-high six shots against the Bison.
On the season, Stokes owns team highs in
goals (4), points (8), shots (22), shots on goal (11) and game-winners (3).
Litch registered eight saves in goal, while owning a
0.97 goals against average, in two contests last week.
In Drake's 2-1 road win at South Dakota
State, she pulled in a game-high five saves.
Litch followed by registering three saves,
including combining for two in the second half and overtime to preserve a 2-1 home overtime
triumph past North Dakota State.
On the season, Litch has recorded 28 saves
and sports a 0.99 goals against average.
The Bulldogs (4-2) enter action this week seeking to extend
its two-game winning streak hosting South Dakota and Nebraska Omaha. First on the docket will be a meeting
with the Coyotes on Friday (Sept. 7) at the Cownie Soccer Complex, before
battling the Mavericks on Sunday (Sept. 9). Game times are slated for 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.,
respectively.
