NORWALK, Iowa - The 2012 Bulldog
Club golf tournament was played Thursday afternoon at Echo Valley Country Club
in Norwalk. Golfers braved the extreme
heat to enjoy a great event at an outstanding golf course.
Bulldogs
coaches and athletic department staff were on hand to join in the event and
show their appreciation for the year-round efforts of the Bulldog Club.
The mission
and vision of the club is to serve as ambassadors of Drake Athletics to the
public; provide leadership in financial support to Drake Athletics; and assist
in the recruitment, cultivation and stewardship of annual donors to the Bulldog
Club.
"We had a tremendous turnout today of golfers
on a tough, hot day and it is a great testament to our Bulldog Club members and
fans," said John Brown, Drake
Assistant Athletic Director/Bulldog Club and Special Events.
New Drake
women's basketball head coach Jennie Baranczyk and members of her coaching staff served as hole-in-one spotters on each of the par-3 holes and the entire women's basketball team came
out to visit with the golfers before they hit the course. After the tournament
started the team departed to the Des Moines Boy's and Girl's Club to
participate in a community service project organized by sophomore Cara Lutes (Maplewood, Minn.).
Following
play the golfers enjoyed dinner and a short program that featured Drake
Athletics Director Sandy Hatfield Clubb,
Drake Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs Dennis Francois and Baranczyk. The program was emceed by Drake
men's basketball play-by-play man Larry Cotlar.
The foursome
of Yodi Ollum, Tyler Slaven, Ben Schooley and Tyler Dingel were the overall
tournament winners in the first flight with a score of 54. Perry and Kevin
Hummel, Terry Michael, and Steve Seybert were the winners of flight two with a
score of 65. John Smidt and Roger Fitzgerald took first place in the third
flight with a score of 69.
