DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's
basketball program has received a signed letter of intent from Mary Pat Specht of Johnson
County Community College (Kansas City, Kan.) for the 2012-13 school year.
A 5'-7"
shooting guard, Specht was named a NJCAA Women's Basketball Division II
All-American this past season and helped lead Johnson County to a school record
32-3 record, an East Jayhawk Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record, a No.
1 ranking for 15 straight weeks and a top-10 NJCAA D-II Tournament finish.
"Mary Pat brings
maturity and leadership to our team at the guard position," Drake head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "She is a winner
with high character and she strengthens our class that signed back in November."
Specht, also
earned WBCA second-team All-America honors, averaged 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds
and 1.3 assists per game. She also ranked second on the JCCC team with 48
3-point baskets, and tied for the team lead in free throw percentage at 82
percent.
She joins center
Emma Donahue (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) along with guards Dilonna
Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Dominican), Ashley Bartow (Verona, Wis./Verona) and
Alexis Eckles (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) who signed National Letters of
Intent in November.
