Women?s Basketball Receives National Letter Of Intent From Mary Pat Specht

DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake women's basketball program has received a signed letter of intent from Mary Pat Specht of Johnson County Community College (Kansas City, Kan.) for the 2012-13 school year.

A 5'-7" shooting guard, Specht was named a NJCAA Women's Basketball Division II All-American this past season and helped lead Johnson County to a school record 32-3 record, an East Jayhawk Conference title with a perfect 18-0 record, a No. 1 ranking for 15 straight weeks and a top-10 NJCAA D-II Tournament finish.

"Mary Pat brings maturity and leadership to our team at the guard position," Drake head coach Jennie Baranczyk said. "She is a winner with high character and she strengthens our class that signed back in November."

Specht, also earned WBCA second-team All-America honors, averaged 9.4 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. She also ranked second on the JCCC team with 48 3-point baskets, and tied for the team lead in free throw percentage at 82 percent.

She joins center Emma Donahue (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) along with guards Dilonna Johnson (Milwaukee, Wis./Dominican), Ashley Bartow (Verona, Wis./Verona) and Alexis Eckles (Milwaukee, Wis./Rufus King) who signed National Letters of Intent in November.
