WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Freshman Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) paced the Drake men's golf team in first-day action at the Boilermaker Invitational on Saturday (April 21) firing a two-round total of 158 (76-82=158) on Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.

Huser's efforts were good enough to place him tied for 61st amongst arguably the toughest field the Bulldogs have faced this season.

"Blake (Huser) had a good round one minus one swing that cost him a triple, but he probably turned in our best effort in the opening round with a 76," Drake head coach Matt Lewis commented.  "In the second round, we all continued to struggle as the course was extremely difficult and we were going against the best field we've faced this year.  We tried to avoid big numbers and mistakes and had a tough time dealing with that and we struggled as a team today.  We're going to give it our best tomorrow and gain some momentum heading into the conference tournament."

Sophomore Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was two strokes off Huser's pace carding a 36-hole score of 160 (82-78=160) to stand tied for 69th.

As a team, Drake finished with a 644 (322-322=644) total.

Redshirt freshman Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) posted scores of 82 and 81 for a 163 total, good for an 80th-place tie.

Freshman Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) and sophomore Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa) rounded out the Bulldogs' efforts registering scores of 164 (83-81=164/T-82nd) and 168 (82-86=168/T-90th), respectively.

Drake concludes play with a 7:45 a.m. CT shotgun start on Sunday (April 21).
