WHAT'S AHEAD: Drake makes an expedition to Terre Haute, Ind., this
week to compete in the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship (April
22-24) at the Country Club of Terre Haute.
The 10-team field
will have play 18 holes each day beginning on Sunday (April 22) and concluding
on Tuesday (April 24). Tee times
are scheduled to start each day at 7:30 a.m. CT.
Competing for the Bulldogs at the championship will be seniors Paige Menze (Oxbow, N.D.) and Christy Wittmer (Hampton, Iowa), junior Chelsey Falk (Glenwood, Minn.), sophomore Hadley Jennings (Trenton, Mo.) and freshman Danielle Brooks (Red Wing, Minn.).
A YEAR AGO: On the
strength of arguably its best back-to-back rounds of the season, Drake turned
in a fourth-place finish at the 2011 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Championship at the D.A. Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Ill.
The Bulldogs came out
firing on all cylinders to begin the day holding a share of the lead late into
the first 18 holes before finishing with a 312 total. That mark was tied
with Wichita State for second, seven shots behind eventual champion Illinois
State.
Drake remained near
the top during the final 18 holes before late surges from the Shockers and
Missouri State saw the Bulldogs card a two-round total of 627 (312-315=627) to
finish fourth.
Illinois State won
the tournament with a 597 total (305-292=592) and was followed by Wichita State
(312-304=616), Missouri State (318-299=617), Drake, Bradley (325-303=628),
Southern Illinois (324-309=633), Northern Iowa (324-310=634), Indiana State
(326-308=634), Creighton (332-331=663) and Evansville (345-335=680).
Michelle Mathwick and
Chelsey Falk paced
Drake each registering two-round totals of 155 finishing tied for 14th.
Mathwick fired an opening-round 76 before carding a 79 in round two, while Falk
recorded rounds of 75 and 80, respectively.
Rounding out Drake's
contingent was Hadley Jennings, Kaitlyn Mauk (West
Des Moines, Iowa) and Christy Wittmer, who fired two-round totals of 156 (79-77=156/17th), 161
(82-79=161/T-27th) and 169 (85-84=169/T-43rd), respectively.
