WHAT'S AHEAD: The Drake
men's golf squad visits West Lafayette, Ind., to compete in the Boilermaker
Invitational hosted on Saturday (April 21) and Sunday (April 22) by Purdue at
the Kampen Course at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex. The Tournament serves
as the Bulldogs' final tune-up before the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference
Championship (April 30-May1).
Golfers will tee off starting with shotgun starts at 7:45 a.m. CT both
days.
The 18-team field includes: Akron, Bowling Green, Creighton, Drake,
Eastern Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Loyola, Michigan State,
Miami (OH), Northern Illinois, Purdue, TCU, Toledo, Wichita State and
Wisconsin.
A LOOK BACK: Sophomore
Connor Steele (Cedar Rapids, Iowa)
carded a final-round 72 to pace Drake on the final day at the Arkansas State
Red Wolf Intercollegiate on April 3 at the RidgePointe Country Club in
Jonesboro, Ark.
Freshman Dane Worley (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was
unable to keep up his tournament pace in his final round, shooting a 78, to
finish with a 54-hole total of 219 (70-71-78=219), earning a team-best
29th-place tie.
As a team, Drake
posted a final-round 300 to finish 20th with a 907 (305-302-300=907) total.
Redshirt freshman Devin Leland (Huxley, Iowa) and freshman
Blake Huser (Altoona, Iowa) each
registered scores of 75 in their final rounds to conclude tournament play with
54-hole totals of 223 (74-74-75=223/T-55th) and 232 (78-79-75=232/T-94th),
respectively.
Steele tied for 108th
place, firing a three-round total of 238 (85-81-72=238).
Rounding out the
Bulldogs' effort tying for 114th place was sophomore Matt Ohl (Milford, Iowa), shooting a 54-hole score of 240
(85-81-79=240).
ROUNDING INTO FORM: Drake has continued to elevate its game
this spring under first-year head coach Matt Lewis. Every Bulldog has currently matched or bettered his yearly scoring
average this spring with Dane Worley
and Devin Leland leading the way at
75.0 per round. As a team, Drake
is averaging just over a 300 (300.7) average per round with the Bulldogs firing
three of their top-five lowest rounds of the year, including a team-best 290 at
the Jackrabbit Invitational.

traveling to Hutchinson, Kan., to compete in the State Farm MVC Championship
(April 30-May 1).
