Bulldogs Visit Wisconsin For Pair Of Weekend Matches

FEBRUARY 8, 2012

WHAT'S AHEAD: The Drake women's tennis team ventures to Wisconsin this weekend as the Bulldogs face Green Bay and Milwaukee on Friday (Feb. 10) and Saturday (Feb. 11), respectively.  Match time against the Phoenix is scheduled for 5:00 p.m., while the showdown with the Panthers is slated for 6:00 p.m.

A LOOK BACK: Drake capped a perfect 4-0 homestand registering a 7-0 victory over North Dakota last Friday (Feb. 3) at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

The Bulldogs established momentum in the affair from the start sweeping all three doubles contests, with the tandem of senior Gabriela Demos and junior Manca Krizman (Solkan, Slovenia) clinching the doubles tally with an 8-1 decision at the No. 1 position.

Drake continued its strong play in singles as victories by Demos and senior Amanda Aragon (Fort Collins, Colo.) at the Nos. 3 and 5 slots pushed the Bulldogs to within a point of victory.

Clinching the triumph at the No. 4 position was freshman Nell Boyd (Arlington Heights, Ill.), who registered a 6-1, 6-1 decision.

Rounding out Drake's victory total at the Nos. 1, 2 and 6 holes was Krizman, sophomore Klavdija Rebol (Kranj, Slovenia) and junior Ali Patterson (Overland Park, Kan.).

In exhibition action, freshman Amanda Dick (Kenosha, Wis.) picked up an 8-6 triumph versus Lindsey Viegut.

OUR LAST MEETINGS: Drake competed against both schools this past September at the Northern Iowa Fall Invitational where the Bulldogs posted a 7-2 combined singles/doubles ledger against the two schools.

In Drake's last dual season encounter with Milwaukee on Jan. 19, 2008 in Minneapolis, Minn., the Bulldogs registered a 7-0 victory over the Panthers.

Drake swept all three doubles matches to pick up the doubles point and the momentum remained in favor of the Bulldogs as the squad posted wins at all six singles positions.

Leszayova fought to secure a 7-5 triumph in the second-set tiebreaker to post her first singles win of the dual campaign with a 6-4, 7-6 (5) decision over Drvaric at the top singles slot.

UP NEXT: Returning to the Roger Knapp Tennis Center, Drake will host UMKC and Chicago State on Feb. 18.  Match times are slated for 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., respectively.
