What's Ahead: In its final tune-up before the conference meet, the
Drake men's track and field team will return to Fayetteville, Ark. to compete
in the Razorback Twilight. The first event on Friday (May 6) at John
McDonnell Field starts at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out: Drake had their hands full with
two meets last weekend (April 27-30) with athletes competing at both the Drake
Relays and the Kip Janvrin Open.
In his first 10,000-meter race of his
collegiate career, freshman Brogan Austin (Boone, Iowa) finished
second at the 102nd running of the Drake Relays.
Austin ran the 25-lap circuit in a time of
29:54.96, the fourth-best time this season in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Sophomore Kevin Harp (Iowa City, Iowa) broke his
school record in the men's javelin with his throw of 208 feet 7 inches to
finish eighth while freshman Phillip Beeler (Lenexa, Kan.) netted a 20th-place
showing with a toss of 185 feet 3 inches.
Junior Jon DeGrave (Lake Villa, Ill.) ran the second-fastest time in school history in
the 400 hurdles crossing the line in 50.91 to place sixth. It marks a personal
best for the junior and the 14th-best time in the nation.
Freshman Omet Kak (Des Moines, Iowa) ran a personal best time in the 1500 finishing in
3:48.30, which is the best time in the MVC this season and earned the Des
Moines native a fourth-place finish.
Sophomore Dan Karys (Bartlett, Ill.) soared
23 feet 11 inches in the men's long jump to nab 14th place.
Another Drake record fell during the Kip
Janvrin Open when sophomore Isaac Twombly (Baldwin, Kan.) broke the
school-record in the hammer throw with a toss of 168
feet.

Drake will compete at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track
And Field Championship from May 13-15 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
