Jordann Plummer (St. Louis, Mo.) and
Kristin Turk (Des Moines, Iowa) combined for 28 points in the second half as Drake rallied from an eight-point deficit to post a 73-62 victory past Evansville in the opening round of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament Thursday night.
Drake, which earned its sixth straight victory against the Purple Aces, advanced to the quarterfinal round Friday with a 6 p.m. test against No. 2 seeded Creighton.
Turk scored 15 of her game-high 21 points in the second half, hitting three three-point baskets.
Plummer, who earned second-team All-MVC playing honors Wednesday, came off the bench to finish with 20 points, a career-tying 10 rebounds, along with six assists and four steals.
The No. 7 seeded Bulldogs shot 51.7 percent from the floor in the second half, making 15 of 29 shots.
Plummer netted 13 points in the second half. With Drake trailing 39-31, Plummer ignited a 14-0 run with a jumper with 16:13 left in the game.
Turk scored 10 points in the flurry, including a three-point basket to cap the streak with 12:19 remaining that staked the Bulldogs to a 45-39 cushion.
A three-point basket by Turk with 9:25 left gave Drake a 50-47 lead it never relinquished. That also was the start of a 7-0 run by the Bulldogs which included two free throws from Plummer and a basket by
Amber Wollschlager (Milbank, S.D.).
Drake collected 15 steals in the game with Turk collecting four.
