Drake Softball Picked Fourth In MVC Preseason Poll

DES MOINES, IOWA – The Drake University softball team was picked fourth in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason coaches' poll, the league announced Wednesday. The Bulldogs garnered 71 points and one first place selection in a vote by the league's head softball coaches.

Drake, which finished the 2009 season 30-23 overall and 13-10 in the MVC, returns two first team all-MVC performers in junior pitcher Jenna DeLong and junior infielder Erin Bly. DeLong went 19-12 and struck out 244 batters in 214.1 innings of work a season ago, while Bly led the team with a .317 average and 51 hits.

The Bulldogs begin their 2010 campaign Feb. 12 at the Metrodome Tournament, battling Iowa State. First pitch is at 1 p.m.
