ESPN.Com Rates Drake Men's Basketball Recruiting Class No. 1 In MVC
DES MOINES, IOWA -- For the second consecutive year Drake's incoming men's basketball recruiting class was ranked the best in the Missouri Valley Conference.
Scouts Inc., in conjunction with ESPN.com, had a conference-by-conference breakdown after the early fall signing period, rating Drake's three high school signees the best in the MVC.
High school basketball standouts Karl Madison, a 5-foot 10-inch guard from Springfield, Ill.; Rayvonte Rice, a 6-3 guard from Champaign, Ill., and Jeremy Jeffers, a 6-6 guard from Wilson, N.C., signed early fall national letters of intent at Drake.
The ESPN.com website said: "The Bulldogs added perimeter size, strength and skill. This class can hit the 3 or score through contact on physical drives and has the point guard to run the show in Madison (Karl). "
Rice had 41 points and 13 rebounds for Centennial High School, the top-ranked team In Illinois Class 3A, in a 70-58 victory against Cahokia last Friday.
"This is great news that people are recognizing the fact that we're bringing in good players," said Drake head coach Mark Phelps. "It bodes well for the future of the program."
