WOMEN'S GOLF TEAM RETURNS TO FLORIDA
WHAT'S AHEAD: The Drake women's golf team will close out the fall season competing at the Pat Bradley Invitational at the Pelican Preserve golf course in Fort Myers, Fla., this Monday and Tuesday. It will mark Drake's second tournament in Florida in less than a three-week span after finishing seventh in the LPGA Xavier Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla., Oct. 11.
Participating teams include Central Florida, Furman, Cincinnati, South Florida, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Stetson, Missouri State, Florida Atlantic, Bradley, Daytona State, Drake, Murray State, North Texas and Florida Gulf Coast.
Started in 1977, the Pat Bradley Women's Golf Championship is named after the LPGA Hall of Fame golfer and Florida International's first-ever All-American and member of the school's Hall of Fame. Host Florida International is the defending team champion.
A LOOK BACK: Senior Olivia Lansing (Dellwood, Minn.) tied for fourth overall to pace Drake at the Hawkeye Invitational last Sunday in Iowa City, Iowa. Lansing finished with a 77-75-75=227 on the Finkbine Golf Course, just three strokes behind Stacey Miller of Illinois State who captured individual honors with a 77-73-74=224.
The Bulldogs placed eighth in the 13-team field with a 311-319-316=946. Missouri State won the championship with a 298-320-296=914. Drake junior Michelle Mathwick (Greenfield, Wis.) tied for 19th with a 76-79-81=236. Drake senior Kelly Godwin (Centerville, Minn.) tied for 39th with a 77-82-82=241.
Drake senior Elena Vukmir (Wauwatosa, Wis.) finished 57th at 81-83-83=247, while senior Amanda Vogt (Melbourne, Iowa) was 62nd with an 89-83-78=250. Drake senior Chelsey Gannon (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tied for 68th at 81-85-93=259.
