Seven Bulldogs Garner All-MVC Women's Soccer Accolades

ST. LOUIS, MO. - Seven members of Drake women's soccer team garnered All-Missouri Valley Conference honors when the league announced its annual plaudits at the tournament banquet in Omaha, Neb., on Thursday evening (Nov. 5).

Senior Elizabeth Woerle (Coon Rapids, Minn./Meadow Creek) was tabbed a first team All-MVC recipient, while fellow seniors Crystal Townley (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) and Blair Nelson (Southlake, Texas/Carroll) collected second team laurels.  Named to the All-Freshman squad was Laura Moklestad (Des Moines, Iowa/Roosevelt). Receiving honorable mention recognition were seniors Melissa Lewis (Edina, Minn./Edina) and Rachel Gielau (Denver, Iowa/Denver) along with junior Bailey Dorrington (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Xavier).

After earning second team accolades as a junior, Woerle was elevated to first team status registering team highs in goals (8), points (17), shots (57), shots on goal (26) and game-winners (4).  Woerle is ranked second, third, third and seventh in the MVC in game-winning goals, goals per game (0.40), shots per game (2.85) and points per game (0.85).

Repeating her second team selection as a junior, Townley has recorded four goals and four assists this fall on the strength of 44 shots, including 18 on goal.  Townley is rated third, eighth and 10th in the league in game-winning goals (0.15), shots per game (2.20) and assists per game (0.20).

An honorable mention recipient a year ago, Nelson captured second team honors after scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist on 28 shots this season.

Moklestad crafted a stellar rookie campaign for the Bulldogs as she led Drake in assists (5), while ranking second in goals (5) and points (15).  She is ranked among the league leaders in assists per game (0.25) and point per contest (0.75).

Lewis has posted a goal and an assist this season, while Dorrington owns one goal and along with Gielau have been anchors on a Drake defense that has recorded seven shutouts on the campaign.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday (Nov. 6) as Drake battles regular season MVC champion Illinois State in the semifinals of the State Farm MVC Championship in Omaha, Neb.  Game time at Morrison Stadium is slated for 3:30 p.m.
