DES MOINES, Iowa - The Drake
women's tennis team captured wins in all nine matches en route to collecting a
7-0 triumph over Nebraska Omaha on Sunday (March 3) at the Roger Knapp Tennis
Center.
The Bulldogs captured the only point they needed in the affair on the
strength of a sweep of the doubles competition.
Clinching the deciding tally at the No. 3 doubles position was the
tandem of sophomore Amanda Dick
(Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman Evy Van Genechten (Antwerp, Belgium), who bettered Rachel Pierson and Lindsay
Weideman, 8-3.
Sophomore Nell Boyd
(Arlington Heights, Ill.) and freshman Maddie
Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) extended Drake's lead to 3-0 with victories to open singles action.
Boyd netted a 6-2, 6-0 decision past Weideman at No. 4, before Johnson
swung past Molly Matricardi at No. 2, 6-0, 6-1.
In her first singles competition of the spring campaign, freshman Mariel Ante (Riverside, Calif.)
registered the match-clinching point with a 6-0, 6-3 win versus Emily
Pierson at No. 3.
The Bulldogs also received victories at the Nos. 1, 5 and 6 slots, respectively,
courtesy of Van Genechten, freshman Jordan
Eggleston (LaQuinta, Calif.) and Dick.
