ST. LOUIS, MO. - The
Missouri Valley Conference has announced that Drake freshman Jean Erasmus (Windhoek, Namibia) has
been honored as the State Farm MVC Men's Tennis Player of the Week. This
marks the third weekly accolade for a Drake men's tennis player this season and
the first in Erasmus' career.
Erasmus posted a team-best 5-1 combined singles/doubles
record in helping Drake garner a pair of victories last week.
He registered a come-from-behind victory (2-6,
6-4, 10-5) over Benedikt Lindheim of Nebraska to account for the Bulldogs' lone
point in a 6-1 setback against the previously nationally-ranked Cornhuskers on
March 3.
He followed with a pair of singles and doubles triumphs over Gustavus
Adolphus and Graceland last Sunday (March 7). Paired with sophomore Cesar Bracho (Luque, Paraguay), the duo
secured the doubles point in a 7-0 victory against Gustavus Adolphus.
On the season Erasmus owns a 19-13 combined singles/doubles record,
including 8-4 in singles action on the dual campaign.
The Bulldogs (7-5) return to action on Wednesday (March 10) with a 5:00
p.m. home match against UMKC, a 2009 NCAA Tournament participant.
